Artist Reception: Martha Sue Harris. Pomology - the Study & Practice of Growing Fruit

Sep. 24, 2008

New Work by Martha Sue Harris

New work by Martha Sue Harris including video collaboration with Iu-Hui Chua and Rajendra Serber

With this installation combining sculpture, painting and video, Martha Sue examines her experience of pregnancy through a lens colored by developmental biology, animal embryology, and pomology. Gallery BellJar becomes a bizarre inner landscape populated with imaginary fruit, embryonic creatures and strange plant life, representative of her fascination with the way things grow.

Martha Sue is an interdisciplinary artist who lives and works in San Francisco. Her work brings her endearing and sometimes menacing characters to the plant kingdom. Imagining plant-life that has evolved monstrous traits, Harris' strange chimerical trees, flowers, and fungi are displayed in their (un)natural habitat. Her deviant vision of botany illustrates relationships and issues within the plant kingdom, but is equally imbued with insights into human emotion and interaction. Find out more about her work here: http://www.marthasue.net

No Sleep 'Til Brooklyn

Sep. 4, 2008

IMG_4368

I'm moving to New York in October and need to raise some capital. So I'm going through the archives and making select pieces of ORIGINAL ART available for sale.

I don't plan on selling any more artwork for a looong time or until the rats in New York eat my fingers off. All you folks that emailed me about buying some originals or commissioning me - this is your chance. That's it!

Expect to see zombies, skulls, girls and random whatnots from various rock posters and magazines. If humanly possible I will include a copy of the poster/thing that the art was originally used for.
